Do You Have A Favorite Record Label? : NPR:

A record label used to actually be a label: a small, circular piece of paper that could represent a sound, an aesthetic and a standard. But if you only listen to MP3s, do labels matter to you?

Interesting article answering a question I’ve had: how did people discover music before the internet?

Which seems like a silly question because the internet is young compared to the music industry. But I just wanted to know how people found music that wasn’t top 40. And this article offers one solution.

The author describes seeing the label on the record with the logo of the record label and associating labels with certain types of music.

So record labels then are like blogs now. You go to certain blogs for certain music and if they post an mp3 to someone you’ve never heard of, you’re more likely to listen to it than if you were made aware of it from another source.

So no, I don’t have a favorite record label, but I do have a favorite blog that I trust to provide me with great, new music.

In conclusion: blogs are the new record labels. Kind of.

I heard this song on Morning Becomes Eclectic and I had to share it.

I don’t know much about Flight Facilities but a quick glance at their wikipedia entry tells me they are DJs from Australia. They have a couple of mixtapes on their website that might be worth checking out.

The vocals are from another Australian artist - Giselle Rosselli.
